As many budding designers will know, getting your foot in the door of the fashion industry can be an arduous business. Fabrics are expensive, studios don't come cheap and the small army of pattern cutters, studio managers, researchers and PR wizkids needed to make a burgeoning brand any kind of a success comes at a cost.
In a bid to help, the British Fashion Council and GQ launched the BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund  back in 2013. Offering a cash prize, as well as mentorship from fashion industry leaders, the fund has thus far assisted Priya Ahluwalia, founder and creative director of eponymous label Ahluwalia, Samuel Ross of A-Cold-Wall*, Craig Green, E Tautz and Christopher Shannon.
Applications for the 2022 BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund in partnership with Clearpay are now being accepted. The winner will receive £150,000 in addition to invaluable advice and mentoring from the industry's finest talents (think Dior's Kim Jones and BFC CEO Caroline Rush). Any hopeful applicant's collection should consist largely of menswear, men's accessories or unisex clothing.
The winner of the fund will be selected next year by a group of fashion industry hotshots that in the past has included  Rush, Jones, model Alton Mason, Arsenal superstar Héctor Bellerín, CEO of Versace Jonathan Akeroyd, Stephen Doig of the Telegraph and Teo van den Broeke of British GQ.
Caroline Rush said of the latest iteration of the BFC/GQ Fund, "the fund was created in order to help emerging brands grow and move forward financially. It is imperative that we continue to lend our support to young designer businesses.”
